Judith Evall, 91, of Floral Park, NY, and previously of Baldwin-Freeport, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family and friends, on April 29, 2023. Beloved mother of Mitchell and Joseph, in-law of Dana and Richard, grandmother of Gracen and Sara, and wife of Irving (deceased), Judy lived a life of kindness, grace, and generosity.
Compassionate about social justice, Judy served on the board of a school for developmentally disabled children, and spoke out against unfairness or disrespect wherever she saw it. She was an avid reader, and for decades organized and attended college literature courses for adult learners. Judy loved sports, playing a fierce tennis game well into her 80s, and bowling strike after strike when she was younger--with an impressive collection of trophies from each sport.
But most of all, Judy loved her friends and family, a circle that expanded in the past couple of years to include the glorious aides who helped her each day.
Judy was nobody's fool, but her heart was always open to anyone with a problem; she accepted people on their own terms, and always withheld judgment, offering a sympathetic ear and wise words to the many who sought her out.
She adored her grandchildren, and marveled as they have grown from smart and fun little kids to professional women with their own commitments to social justice. She made a beautiful and loving home for her sons, and treated their spouses as if they were her own kids. Judy got tremendous joy from her extended family, embracing her early admission to her generation’s cousin club. But most of all, she adored Irv, her husband of 56 years—through decades of a storybook romance, and selfless dedication to his care in his final years.
Judy was elegant, refined, and kind. We miss her terribly.
