Lester R. Corn, MD, a Great neck resident for over 50 years, died recently in Manhasset, NY at age 87.
Dr. Corn was a well-loved physician, practicing internal medicine, endocrinology and geriatrics at his office on Bond Street from the early 1960’s until the late 1990’s. He was also the Medical Director of Grace Plaza Skilled Nursing Facility for 27 years, and attending physician at North Shore University Hospital for nearly 50 years.
Lester Corn was born in Brooklyn, NY and attended New Utrecht High School before enlisting in the US Army, where he served in Italy during WWII as a tank driver. After the war he attended LIU as an undergraduate, medical school in Lausanne, Switzerland, followed by residency and internships at Leahy Clinic and Cook County Hospital. After his medical training, he moved to Great Neck, NY where he lived with his family and built his practice.
Dr. Corn was an active supporter and leader of the Great Neck Rotary Club, where he served as President for several terms, working on programs such as the Gift of Life and Polio Plus, and achieving the high honor of Paul Harris Fellow.
Lester is survived by his wife, Bonnie Corn, his children Michael Corn and Judy Corn, their spouses Dr. Lisa Sedotto and David Fried, and his grandchildren Miles Corn, Michelle Fried and Adam Fried. Dr. Corn will be missed in Great Neck and by all whose lives he touched.
Services will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 11:30am at Riverside Nassau North Chapels, 55 North Station Plaza, (opp. LIRR) Great Neck, NY. Interment to immediately follow at New Montefiore Cemetery, Pinelawn, New York.
