Margot Chankin, painter, sculptor, and ceramicist, was a gifted and imaginative artist whose work was inspired by the beauty and movement of the natural world. Over the course of her artistic life, she explored a wide range of media, from painting and sculpture to ceramics and metalwork, always seeking new ways to express her creativity. Her abstract forms, often influenced by water, shells, and rocks, reflected both her artistic curiosity and her deep appreciation for nature.
She was born in the Bronx and lived in Yonkers, and later in Hartsdale. Margot was predeceased by her brother, Paul Jacobs, in 2017. Earlier that same year, she lost her beloved husband, Arthur Chankin, with whom she shared a long and devoted marriage.
She is survived by her two daughters, Fay Hornik and Suzanne Gordon, her son-in-law, Marc L. Gordon, her grandchildren, Sarah, Jonathan, and Itamar Hornik, Rebecca and Nola Gordon, and great-grandchildren, Itai, Adam, Geffen, Yuval, Daniel, and Penelope.
The funeral was held on June 4, 2026 at Riverside-Nassau North Chapel in Great Neck, NY.
