Michael Gorin, born on December 4, 1941, to Joseph (Mac) Gorin and Ruth Gorin, built a distinguished career in finance defined by exceptional achievement, professional leadership, and a commitment to excellence. Michael passed away on October 27, 2026 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Michael graduated from Hofstra University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. Early in his career, he demonstrated remarkable aptitude, earning the prestigious AICPA Silver Medal for achieving the second-highest score in the nation on the Uniform CPA Examination. Following graduation, he joined Arthur Andersen & Co., where he rose through the ranks to become an accounting partner in 1973. In 1980, he joined Republic National Bank of New York as Senior Vice President. He later joined Aeroflex Incorporated, where he served from 1988 to 2005 as Chief Financial Officer and ultimately Vice Chairman. One of the notable milestones of Michael's career at Aeroflex was the company's historic decision to delist from the New York Stock Exchange and relist on the Nasdaq in 2000. This made Aeroflex the first company in more than sixty years to voluntarily make such a move and was a landmark event in the history of the U.S. stock markets.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael embraced life with enthusiasm and a sense of adventure. He had a passion for exotic cars and loved his visits to casinos in Atlantic City and Las Vegas. His family will fondly remember the stories he shared about his numerous winning streaks. Michael also took great pride in his appearance, always impeccably dressed and looking dapper. His greatest joy in life, however, was his beautiful and growing family, relishing in their many accomplishments and milestones.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Lieberman; his four children from his first marriage to the late Gail Gorin: Sheri (Cory) Baker, Brian (Tina Choe) Gorin, Jodi (Michael) Kerper, and Stephanie Gorin; his two stepsons, Philip and David Spatola; and his two sisters, Linda Edelstein and Janice von Schmid. He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Sarah (Brendan) Collins, Landon (Marisa) Baker, Andrew (Victoria) Kerper, Jarrett (Jillian Zuck) Gorin, Jillian (Jake) Smith, and Malea Gorin; one step-grandson, Ryan (Ariel) Baker; and two great grandchildren, Declan and Amelia.
Michael will be remembered for his professional accomplishments, his zest for life, his unmistakable style, and the many stories and memories he leaves with those who loved him.
Services will be held on October 29th, 2026, at 11:30am at Riverside-Nassau North Chapel in Great Neck, New York. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter.
