Ruth Wolosoff, devoted mother, loving wife, beloved aunt and great aunt, and loyal friend to many passed away Monday, February 3, 2025 at home in the presence of her children. Ruth’s incredible story of fleeing Austria shortly before World War II, and settling with her parents as immigrants in a tenement on the Lower East Side of New York set the stage for a life of tenacity, curiosity, drive, perseverance, and strength that would remain her hallmarks all throughout her life. From these humble roots, her intelligence and hard work allowed her to attend Brooklyn College, earn a Master’s in Education and become an elementary school teacher. Ruth loved being and excelled as a teacher, as testament by the love of many who maintained relations with her after graduating her class. A devoted mother, she and Les raised their children in Great Neck, exposed them to the arts, sports, culture and of course education, and they remained her greatest pride throughout her life. After retiring from teaching, she continued to stay busy volunteering her time for a range of non-profit and political causes. Ruth was the family matriarch, and leaves her loving children Amy & Neil Wolosoff, son-in-law Brad Hyson, nephews and their spouses Todd & Rachelle Wolosoff, and Kenny & Judy Wolosoff and all their six children and ten grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday, February 6th at 9:30 am at Riverside-Nassau North Chapels, 55 N Station Plaza, Great Neck, NY 11021, with burial to follow immediately thereafter.
