Sandra Curtis passed away on the afternoon of April 23, 2025. She is survived by Robert Curtis, her husband of 59 years; sons Jonathan (wife Binay) and Keith (wife Jennifer); and grandchildren Aylin, Devin, Eli and Zoe.
Known as “Sandy” to friends and family, she was born March 22, 1940 in the Bronx, NY, to Jean and Frank Bloom. Growing up across from Crotona Park provided a formative childhood with stories and life lessons that she carried into motherhood and imparted on her future family.
She attended Roosevelt High School and earned her Bachelor of Science from City College of New York. She returned to the Bronx and taught grade school until 1969. After a career break for motherhood, Sandy became a real estate agent on the North Shore of Long Island.
Sandy was passionate about spending time outdoors year-round. She was introduced to skiing by college friends and met her future spouse, Robert, in Sugarbush, Vermont in December 1964. The courtship blossomed driving to and from Vermont each weekend. When the snow melted, their relationship migrated to the Hamptons where they enjoyed beach parties, volleyball and duck races. Sandy and Robert married on December 19, 1965, and took off shortly thereafter to ski in Zermatt and explore Greece before returning home to New York City. That trip set the stage for a lifetime of skiing, beaches, exploration and adventures. Sandy and Bob settled in Roslyn, NY where they raised their family.
She had an infectious smile and a huge heart. Nothing made her happier than spending time with family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and excelled in her role as Grandma Sandy to her four grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed by friends and family. Her spirit and enthusiasm will live on through those she touched.
