SILVERMAN--Saul S. Beloved husband, devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather, respected legal advisor and trusted certified public accountant to so many, Saul “Sonny†S. Silverman, age 93, died June 12, 2012. Born in Brooklyn on April 18, 1919, to Jake and Minnie Silverman, Saul graduated from Lincoln High School at age 15, then from New York University School of Commerce at age 19. He received his JD degree from New York University Law School in 1941. His illustrious legal and accounting career began with his association with Mike Edelstein, which became Wright Long & Company and later merged with Clarence Rainess, where Saul was the managing partner. At the same time, he developed his legal practice as a tax specialist with his life-long cherished colleague Martin Weinraub, as Silverman & Weinraub. His long and distinguished career was not only based upon his tax law expertise, but also the universal trust in him held by all who sought his services. Never self-serving, he always put the interests of his clients first and was guided by the highest ethical standards. Saul was a respected community leader: honored and active in several Jewish charities, president of the Lake Success Civic Association, Lake Success Municipal Court Judge, president and long-time board member of Beach Point Condominium Association and High Ridge Country Club in Palm Beach, Florida. But the greatest achievement of his life was his long and endlessly happy marriage to Estelle, beautiful wife of 68 years, whom he married on Christmas day, 1943, while serving his country in the Air Force during World War II. Saul will be forever missed by his three loving daughters, Jill Cossman, Linda Sobo and Sheri Labovitz, their spouses David Cossman, Simon Sobo and Steve Labovitz, his grandchildren Joshua Cossman and wife Christy, Jim Cossman and wife Denise, Joanna Cossman, Daniel Sobo and wife Lisa, Michael Sobo and wife Mary Ellen, Andrew Labovitz and wife Allison and Laura Labovitz, and great grandchildren Lucas and Katie. Services will be held on Friday, June 15 at 11:00 a.m. Temple Bethel, 105 Old Mill Rd., Great Neck, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to cancercare.org.
