Passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 3, 2023 at the age of 95, Sidney spent his last days surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Nettie (Schechter) Oberstein and three sisters Shirley Zegarek, Gloria LuKacher and Harriet Basson. Survived by his wife, Evelyn, and their daughters, Janet, Susan and Amy, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Sidney graduated from City College in 1949, Columbia Graduate School of Optometry with two degrees in 1952 and obtained his doctorate from Massachusetts College of Optometry in 1958. Licensed in NYS, he was self-employed as Dr. Sidney Oberstein O.D. with practices in Brooklyn and Queens. Additionally, he proudly served in the US Army from 1946 – 1947.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, November 5, 2023 at 12 PM at Riverside Nassau North Chapel in Great Neck. Procession to follow to Beth Moses Cemetery in Pinelawn NY. The family will sit Shiva following the burial on Sunday as well as Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (2 – 4 and 6 – 9) at 255-06 Union Turnpike Floral Park, NY 11004.
