Sima Katz was born in Lithuania in 1923. She and her husband, Nathan, escaped imprisonment from a Nazi ghetto, and were hidden on a farm by a family of Righteous Gentiles until liberation. They then escaped again from Russia-controlled Lithuania, through Poland to a DP camp in Germany in 1946. They emigrated to the United States in 1951, where they raised their family, started their own business and supported Jewish philanthropies. Sima was especially proud to have been one of the survivors who shared her story for UJA Long Island’s Witness Project in its inaugural year, 2018. After 15 years in Queens, Sima lived in Roslyn for 30 years before moving to Port Washington. She had two daughters, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
