TAWFIK M. RABY died on March 30, 2016, at age 87. A prominent nuclear physicist of Iraqi-Jewish descent and the youngest of eight children, Dr. Raby left Baghdad at age 18 in 1947 when he received a scholarship to study physics and chemistry at Berkley. He went on to obtain his Master’s degree from University of Utah and Ph.D. from Columbia. Dr. Raby served the United States for over 40 years, first as Director of Reactor Operations at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, then as a NIST Fellow in Neutron Research. Dr. Raby was a generous mentor to many, a valued faculty member of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the recipient of many prestigious honors and awards, including the Commerce Medal. He is survived by his brother Albert (Suad) Raby, and many loving nieces and nephews.
