Barbara Brooks, 89, of Greeley, died September 14, 2012 at Life Care Center of Greeley. She was born in Chicago, Illinois. She grew up in Chicago and after graduating from high school, she attended Stanford University and Colorado State University where she received her Master’s Degree. She served in the United Stated Coast Guard from 1941 – 1944. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Ft. Morgan, Colorado Mental Health Association and NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Barbara taught school at Boxelder School a one room school house north of Ft. Collins. She was the last teacher to teach there in the late 1940 when the school was closed. The school now stands today but was moved and is now part of the Ft. Collins Museum.
Barbara enjoyed painting, woodworking, and ceramics. Her passion was gardening. She was the owner and operator of House of Clay, a ceramic shop in Ft. Morgan. She retired and moved to Evans residing with her son. After the death of her son, she went to live with her daughter Loraine Reed.
Barbara is survived by her daughters Cheryl Cleffman of Brush, Katherine Knowton of Oakland, California and Loraine and Bruce Reed of Greeley; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by a son Robert, a grandson Timothy Reed, and a brother Donald Monroe Swett Jr.
Cremation will be conducted.
