Bernard was raised in Morrilton and Vinita, Oklahoma. When he was a teenager his family moved to Kansas City, Missouri. Bernard served on the front line in Korea and was in the Honor Guard.
In September 1953, he married Anne Rose in Kansas City and moved his family to Greeley.
Bernard was self-employed. He was the owner of the Gondolier Restaurant in Greeley and a rancher in Walden. He was a master woodworker.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Anne; two daughters, Lise Streit and Leanne Streit (Michael Fasulo); three sons, Kristopher Streit (Cynthia), Kevin Streit (Carol) and Craig Streit; one sister, Mary Ann Asmus; one brother, CJ Streit; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.
