Bessie was born in Texas on August 27, 1944, to Dorotheo and Margarita (Yanes) Mungia.
Throughout her life, Bessie found comfort and satisfaction in the simple, steady rhythms of home—especially ironing and cooking. She also embraced the pleasures that brought color and variety to her days: traveling, painting, shopping, and going gambling. She took special delight in her purses and in helping to make tamales, sharing in traditions that brought people together.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Anita "Annie" Ybarra; and brothers, Ysidro and Gilbert Mungia.
Bessie is survived by her sisters, Mary Maltos, Sally Carpio, Andrea Monsivais, and Dominga Archuleta; and her brother, Ray Mungia. She lived with her caregiver, Janie Webster, Janie’s husband, Richard, and their family for 31 years.
Bessie was a good-hearted person who was always happy and smiling. She was loved by all and will be deeply missed.
