Betty Jean Janssen

November 12, 1930March 6, 2019

Betty Jean Landes Janssen, 88, of Ault, died on March 6, 2019, surrounded by her family at the Good Samaritan Society’s Bonell Community facility in Greeley, Colorado.

Betty was born Nov. 12, 1930, in Hammond, Indiana, to Harold and Irene Landes. She spent much of her youth in Buckley, Illinois, with her beloved mother, father and brother, Chuck. She met her husband of 65 years, Bill Janssen, at Buckley Community High School, where she graduated as the 1948 class salutatorian. Betty achieved her dream of becoming a nurse after moving alone at just 17 years old to Chicago, attending the Lutheran Deaconess School of Nursing. Betty often said her three years of nursing school gave her some of her happiest memories, and she remained close with the friends she made here for life. She continued nursing in a number of states, as she and Bill and their four boys moved many times through the years before settling in Ault, Colorado, in 1969.

Betty is survived by her husband, Bill and her sons, Ben Janssen; Dale Janssen and wife, Cindy; Mark Janssen and wife, Tina; and David Janssen and wife, Melonie, who all continue to live in Northern Colorado. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Betty’s honor on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Eaton, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions in her memory to the First Baptist Church of Eaton, in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th Street, Greeley, CO 80631. Please visit to send condolences to the family.

I remember how loving and kind Betty always was when we would come over to visit Mark and David during high school. Many years later, I would occassionally see her in Steeles market in Windsor and she always had time to stop and talk about old times, her boys and their families and what was happening in Ault.

It has been some years since I have seen her, but Mom and Dad talk about Bill and Betty often. She will be missed and my heart and prayers go out to Bill and the family.

I will always remember the wonderful time I spent with Aunt Betty and Uncle Bill and their crazy boys when I decided I needed a change and went to live with them for a while after I graduated from high school. She treated me like a daughter and we had such a great time together. My thoughts and prayers are with Uncle Bill, Ben, Dale, Mark, David and their families. She will always be remembered and loved.
