Betty was born December 18, 1930 in Clarinda, Iowa to Beulah Mae (Tompkins) and Erle Beach. She graduated from Loveland High School in 1949 and then attended the Parks School of Business in Denver. Betty worked in secretarial positions after completing her education and while raising her family. She retired in 1992 after 20 years at Colorado State University where she worked in several departments.
Church was always an important part of Betty’s life as were her relationships with family and friends. She maintained long-time friends that she met at school, work, church and in shared interests such as ceramics, crocheting, knitting, rug hooking and calligraphy.
Betty enjoyed travel and road trips with family and friends. As a child in Iowa she first traveled to Yellowstone NP where her uncle was a ranger. She and her family carried on the tradition after relocating from the family farm in Shenandoah to Colorado. Here she delighted in the elk rut in Estes Park as well as weekends at the cabin her father built in Red Feather Lakes. In later years she enjoyed senior bus tours with friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her younger brother James and Robert Pennington, with whom she started her family. Betty is survived by her sons Kenneth and David (Nancy); her grandsons Zachary (Sarah), Brian (Ariel), and Tyler (Amber); and her great-grandchildren Corbin and Margot.
A brief graveside service led by Pastor Paul McGraw will be held at Roselawn Cemetery at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, Jan. 14th. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a reception supper at the Moot House around 2:00 pm. Dessert and coffee are to follow at the home of David and Nancy Pennington. To assure no one is prevented from attending, please phone Sarah (970.481.4922) or Nancy (970.219.2501) to arrange transportation.
The family is grateful to staff at New Mercer Commons for the loving care Betty received while there.
When the golden sun is setting,
And the paths no more you trod,
May your name in gold be written,
In the autograph of God
