

She was the fourth of seven children born to Lloyd and Violet Richards in Decatur, Nebraska, on April 5, 1938. Betty attended Wayne State Teachers College and Dana College after graduating from Decatur High School. She taught country school for five years before moving to Colorado in 1962. A rewarding 30-year career in Human Resource Management was completed before she retired in 1996. Her major employers included Ball Brothers Research Corp, Samsonite Corporation, Boulder County, Beech Aircraft, Intel Corp, Litton Industries, and Duke Communications. Her career accomplishments included Business Woman of the year from Loveland, CO, in 1990 and Northern Colorado Human Resource Manager of the year in 1991.
Betty's marriage to Harry W. Schwartz in September 1977, brought two stepdaughters, Cindy and Deb, into her life.
Betty loved music, especially singing in the church choirs. She was chosen Talent Sprout of the year by KMTV in Omaha, Nebraska, at age 13. She also was the soloist for the Mutual of Omaha Choir in 1957. She discovered a love for painting and crafts after retirement and painted with a senior art group from 2002 to 2019.
Along with her dear husband, Betty leaves a large family and a host of friends and coworkers to mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents and a beloved niece, Renae Richards and sister Elaine. Her siblings are Jim (Pat) Richards of Seattle, WA; Shirley Giles of Tekamah, NE; Bob Richards of Decatur, NE; Rita (John) Foster of Housden, MO; and Paul (Leann) Richards of Decatur, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews who have always been dear to her.

Betty's brother Jim Richards is deceased, His wife Pat resides in Lynwood, WA. Betty's sister Rita Foster and husband John reside in Houston, MO.
