

Boyd Alvin Johnson was born on January 28, 1926 in Los Angeles, California, the son of Boyd and Eva (Hartgrove) Johnson. He was raised and educated in California and graduated from Van Nuys High School. Boyd married Gwendoline Fox on June 12, 1946 in Van Nuys. As a young couple they endured Boyd’s enlistment in the Navy, where he served his country during World War II. Boyd was an accomplished psychologist. He dedicated his life to furthering his education in the areas of psychology and special education. He attended University of California in Santa Barbara gaining his bachelors in education and minor in mathematics, San Jose State College earning a General Secondary Teaching Credential, University of Redlands, earning Pupil Personnel Credential – School Counseling, he earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology at Claremont.
Mr. Johnson spent majority of his career as a school Psychologist at the Redlands – Unified School District in California. He served as the chairperson of special education during his time with them. Boyd also taught psychology classes at California State College, University of Redlands and University of California, Riverside.
Boyd and Gwen came to Loveland, Colorado in May of 2004. Mr. Johnson was a Kiwanis Club of the Redlands member and active member of First Lutheran Church of the Redlands and King of Glory Lutheran Church in Loveland. Hobbies include: genealogy, camping and American history.
Boyd will be remembered as a proud World War II Veteran, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and loyal friend. To know him was to love him.
He will be sorely missed by his wife of 72 years; sons: Dan K. Johnson and his wife Cheree and Jon K. Johnson; daughters: Lyn K. Johnson; 4 grandsons, 3 great-granddaughters and 1 great-grandson. Boyd was preceded in death by his daughter Jan K. Johnson and Brother Raleigh B. Johnson.
