Caterina Filippa Gigliotti

Cathy was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on December 31, 1957, to Giovanni and Angelina Gigliotti. The family briefly lived in South Dakota and Wisconsin before settling in Greeley in 1965.

She attended Greeley West High School, Aims Community College, and the University of Northern Colorado, where she obtained both a bachelor's and master's degree in education and graduated with honors. Her career was dedicated to teaching reading, social studies, and world history and spent many years working at Weld Central High School and Milliken Middle School. Over the years, she received many awards and accolades for her teaching. The students loved her and her classes. Cathy retired in 2020.

Cathy was a devout Catholic who attended both Saint Peter's Catholic Church and Saint Mary Catholic church and attended daily mass. Cathy also saw and met in her life two saints, Pope John Paul II and Mother Theresa.

She had many hobbies and interests. Cathy was a beautiful self-taught musician, playing piano and accordion. She was a great racquetball player and enjoyed walking, especially around Bittersweet Park.

Cathy was a person who always had a dog (or two) and spoiled her pets Joey and Molly rotten. Cathy and her dogs walked hundreds of miles over the years.

Cathy had a lifelong love of sparkle and was rarely seen without her rhinestones, jewelry, and signature touch of bling.

She traveled the world, making many friends wherever she went. One of Cathy's favorite destinations was Italy. On a memorable trip to Mexico, she sat at the bow of a boat, feeling the wind against her face while dolphins danced along with her was one of her favorite enjoyments at the Sea of Cortez.

In 2010, she received a kidney transplant. Cathy's donor was her lifelong friend, Cindy Woods.

Cathy is survived by her sisters Mary Stevens, Angela Wiley (Gary), and Joan Gigliotti-Weber (Brett). She also leaves behind three nieces and a nephew: Natalie Stevens, TJ Stevens (Audrey), Cayti Weber-Vowell (Andy), and Jovanna Brunner (Jason). Cathy was also beloved by her great-nephews and nieces: Dorian Stevens, Mischa Stevens, Teek Stevens, Grace Weber-Vowell, James Brunner, Angelina Brunner, Lucas Vowell, and Jacob Brunner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Frank Gigliotti, and nephew John Gigliotti.

A celebration of Cathy's life will be held at Saint Peter's Catholic Church 915 12th Street on Thursday, August 20 with a rosary at 9 a.m. followed by a 9:30 mass.

Immediately afterword there will be a reception at the church in the parish hall. The family will gather for a private interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
