Catherine Louise Orosz

Catherine Louise Orosz passed away in her sleep July 23, 2022 at her home in Greeley, Colorado. She was born June 19, 1929 to Elva Burton "E. B." Carter and Gertrude Louise (née McCann) Carter in Clyde, Missouri. She started school at a one room schoolhouse in Clyde. Later, she attended school in Maryville, Missouri, and graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1947.

Catherine earned a nursing degree from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota in 1952. She worked as a nurse in Rochester and later moved to Columbus, Ohio. In early 1958, she had a patient named Robert Orosz who upon discharge from the hospital asked her out. They wed in June, 1958 and were married for 55 years until Robert's death in 2013.

After their marriage, the growing family moved frequently and finally settled in Greeley in 1971. Catherine got a job at Weld County General Hospital, which later became North Colorado Medical Center, working in the Labor and Delivery department and later as Nursing Supervisor. By the time she retired in 1994, she had assisted in the birth of thousands of babies. After her retirement, she was one of the founding members of the Arc of Weld County (https://arcweldcounty.org), an organization that "promotes and protects the human rights of people in the community with intellectual and developmental disabilities." She was a long time member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband Robert, brothers James Carter and Clarence "CJ" Carter, and sisters’ Sr. Mary Lucy Carter, Dorothea Garvey, Sr. Rosanna Carter and Bertha Goettemoeller. She is survived by sons Robert of Westminster, Colorado, James of San Jose, California, Gregory of Greeley, Paul (Linda) of Denver, Colorado, Edward (Natalia) of Southampton, Pennsylvania, Jerome (Echo) of Lemon Grove, California, Michael (Lisa) of Marion, Iowa; and five grandchildren, Naomi, Carter, Cameron, Chloe and Caitlyn.

Catherine had many friends and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a rosary at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, August 3 at Allnutt Funeral - Macy Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, August 4 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greeley. A reception will follow the funeral.
