Charles Eugene Devlin, 86, of Brush, formerly of the Idalia area, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center, Brush. Charles was born on February 13, 1928 in Hale, Colorado at the homestead to Bernard Leo and Mary Agnes (O’Rourke) Devlin.
Charles was raised and educated in Idalia, Colorado, where he grew up on the farm, which was homesteaded by his father, Bernard Leo Devlin. On September 2, 1950, he married Barbara Ann Jewell at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Wray. After their marriage they farmed the homestead. As a farmer and rancher, Charles worked every aspect, which often included calving and herding cattle on horseback, even in blizzards, working the fields, and harvesting. Charles received the High Ten Award from Great Western Sugar Company for production one year.
Charles was a member of Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church in Las Vegas, Nevada and was a longtime member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Wray before retiring from the farm and moving to Las Vegas in 1993. Barbara and “Gene” lived in Las Vegas until 2013 when they returned to Colorado and resided at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush.
Charles was a faithful member of the Catholic Church. He was a man who lived his faith by always being willing to help someone in need and only asked in return that they help another in need. He was a very hard-working man, a trait that he instilled in his children. His outward love, devotion, and care of his family stood above all else.
