Cherie Lynn VanPortfliet, 79, of Greeley, passed away peacefully at Golden Peaks nursing home in Fort Collins. She was born in Price, Utah, on November 22, 1938, to Sophie (Gauthier) Emerson, originally from France. Cherie’s adoptive father was Harry "Bud" Erskine Jr. of Grand Junction.
Cherie married Ronald McIntire on November 2, 1957 in Grand Junction. Together, they had three sons: Mark (Robin) McIntire of Greeley, Gregory (Stephanie) McIntire of Gunnison, and Stephen (Orinda) McIntire of Greeley. Her second marriage was to Donald VanPortfliet on September 27, 1977 in Denver. Together, they blended their families to include Kurt VanPortfliet (Ann) of Parker and Jana Patrei of Denver. She is survived by her brother Ralph Erskine (Mary Anne) of Grand Junction, her children, several grandchildren-- Nicole, Dustin, Michael, Lynsey, Dylan, Tyson, Ryan, Tessa and Perry, and two great-grandsons-- Finn and Jude.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Donald VanPortfliet.
Cherie worked in the accounting department at Farm Credit Services in Greeley for over 20 years. She was very active at St. Mary Catholic Church, where she helped in the school library and parish office. Her most notable contribution was the love she put into designing and hand making the school's stain glass windows. Her passions included collecting antiques, her garden, and cooking for her family.
A Holy Rosary will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 7, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2222 23rd Ave., followed by the Mass, starting at 11:30 A.M.
Interment to follow at Linn Grove Cemetery. There will be a reception after the services at St. Mary Parish Center.
In light of Cherie's struggles in her later years, the family suggests sending memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th Street, Greeley, CO 80631.
