

Dale Eugene England of Berthoud, CO passed away on June 6, 2014 at Pathways Hospice. He was born on November 2, 1925 in Red Oak, IA to Lula Mae (Hartley) and Paul England. He spent his early years in Red Oak, graduating from high school there in 1944. Upon graduating he received his draft notice and left for Fort Leavenworth in July 1944. He served in Europe with company “K” 109th Infantry, 28th Division. He participated in the campaigns of Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe and received 3 service stars. He was discharged at Ft. Campbell, KY in December 1946. Upon his safe return home he went to a trade school and became an electrician. He helped to bring light to many homes and farm buildings in the Red Oak area. He married Fern Platt on October 2, 1949 and they had three children; Lawrence, Richard, and Charlene. They moved to Colorado in 1966 where they had a foster home for a number of years. Dale was employed at Woodward Governor in Fort Collins until retirement. In 1974 at the young age of 42 Fern passed away and Dale had to give up foster care at that time. Nine years later he married Marion Horner in 1983 and she passed away in 1986. Dale and current wife Elaine Warren met and discovered that they both grew up in Red Oak, IA. Elaine had lost her husband some years earlier and they were married on April 2, 1988. Dale enjoyed spending time in the shop working on projects and at the cabin in the mountains. He had a strong interest in collecting rocks and fossils and in his coin collection. Dale would always make time for his grandkids whether it was playing pool, horseshoe or learning how to properly use tools in the shop. Dale was known as a kind and patient person, never known to utter a cross word and always willing to lend a hand to anyone. He had a sense of humor and wasn’t afraid to play a good natured practical joke on family and friends. Dale was a devout Christian and attended church regularly when his health permitted. He is survived by wife Elaine, sons Lawrence (Cathy) England of Windsor, CO, Richard (Jennifer) England of Henderson, NV, and foster son Mike (Marianna) Rogers of Nussloch, Germany, daughter Charlene (Don) Wells of Burleson TX, Elaine’s daughters Linda (Steve) Dolch of Villisca, IA, Lois (Kyle) Petersen of Loveland, CO; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews along with numerous friends and foster children. He is also survived by brothers Dewane (Nancy) England of Seattle, WA and Dean (Alice) England of Sioux City, IA. He was preceded in death by parents Paul and Lula Mae, brother Donald England, sister Lois Grinstead, first wife Fern and second wife Marion. Visitation with family present will be held Tuesday June 10 from 5 -7pm at Allnutt Funeral Service, Hunter Chapel in Loveland. Funeral services are scheduled for 10am Wednesday June 11 at Allnutt Funeral Service, Hunter Chapel followed by burial at Loveland Burial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested for Pathways Hospice, Associated Veterans of Loveland, and the Loveland or Berthoud Methodist Churches.
