Dale Lee Nelson

Born in Rock Island, IL, to Fred and Leona Nelson on May 11, 1932. Dale graduated from Rock Island High School and then served in the U.S. Air Force. He served in the Korean War and later celebrated an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He married Kathleen Mortell in 1957 and recently celebrated 60 years of marriage on 10/19/2017.

He retired from Illinois Bell and AT&T after 36 years and proceeded to enjoy working in the golf car industry for EZGO in Champaign, IL. He then enjoyed retirement in Louden, TN and Ft. Collins, CO. Dale had many passions: Golf, cars, boating/fishing and just fixing everything. He enjoyed and excelled at golf having 3 holes in one. He coached youth hockey and supported all his children’s athletic endeavors. He took great pride in his children’s successes in life.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Leona Nelson and sister, Debbie (Clarence) Davis and niece, Lynn Aten.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen (Katy), children and family: Children: Christina (Alan) Mitchell, Cindy (Eddie) Fergus. Michael/Ringo Nelson, and Debby (David) Leathers. Grandchildren: Nicole (Steven) Book, Lindsay (Adam) Adkins, Ian Leathers, Evan Leathers and Jack Leathers.

He is loved and will be missed by all family and friends.

A memorial service will be held 10:00am on March 17, 2018, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2502 29th Ave, Rock Island, IL 61201 with Interment immediately following in Calvary Cemetery. Reception will follow interment at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
