He worked hard as an electric power lineman to earn his way through college and graduated in 1964 with a BS in secondary education. He loved teaching Junior High science and was a favorite among the students. On June 26, 1965, Darrell married Shirley Ann Hinrichs. After the reception, he was inducted by the Hinrichs’ having to give Shirley a wheelbarrow ride down the main street of Hildreth, Nebraska on a Saturday night. Together they raised three children, Scott, Chris, and Erin.
In 1968, he went back to school to earn a BS in Pharmacy. For 30 years, he served the public as a pharmacist. In 1982, Darrell and Shirley opened up an independent pharmacy, D&S Pharmacy, in Yuma, Colorado. Darrell was a very hard-working pharmacist with a heart for his customers. If someone couldn’t afford their medication, he gave it to them for free. He was known for sharing his faith and praying with his customers. He loved to counsel his customers and knew everyone by name.
Darrell valued his family and spending time with them. He loved to take trips to the mountains, go on family bike rides, spending time together on the back porch eating meals and playing games, and a family favorite---picnics at Lady Bird park. He was involved in his children’s extracurricular activities, coaching baseball for many years, and attending his children’s many sporting and school events. Supporting his children and helping them through college made him proud. The utmost important thing in his life was his faith in Jesus Christ. He taught his children his favorite Bible verse, Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” For many years he served at St. Paul Lutheran as an elder, a Sunday School teacher, and a leader in the church. His hobbies included Nebraska football, Nebraska football, Nebraska football…watching sports, and reading in his leisure time.
He is survived by his devoted, loving wife, Shirley Ann Seifert, and three children, Scott Seifert, Chris Seifert and his wife, Amy, and children Grace, Christian, and Cameron, and Erin Randa and her husband, Shaun, and two daughters, Hannah, and Alexis. He adored his grandchildren, always carrying pictures of them in his wallet at all times. “Papa” loved to make them giggle.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 7th, 2017 at 10:30 am at Lutheran Church of Hope in Loveland, Colorado.
