David was one of my best friends during and after high school. We lost touch in the late 80s, but he will always have a special place in my heart. He led me to the Lord when I was going through a really hard time in my late teens. David will always have a special place in my heart. He was a great friend who taught me so much, and I will always miss him greatly.

Here is a photo of Dave Johnston from the USS Truxtun 1988 cruisebook.  I really enjoyed standing watch with Dave.  I learned a great deal about politics from Dave.

My deepest condolences to April, Mabel and the Johnston family.  I was one of Dave's friends while working at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.  Years ago, Dave drove out to California in his cool hunter-camo Jeep Cherokee and he was able to visit me and my family.  Going to miss the fudge and the funny conversations on politics. I served with Dave on the USS Truxtun. We played a lot of chess during shutdown mid-watches and had many a stimulating political discussion. Fair winds Dave.

Funniest guy at Kennedy High School.  There was a lot of intellect in his humor and you had to work sometimes to get it. Sad that I never got to seem him after around 1983. He was the most memorable person in my years at school. He will be missed not only as a funny guy but as a great guy.  My condolences to his family and friends.

My condolences as well. Dave was a ""true"" individual. While his input could be perceived as harsh sometimes, those who ""knew"" him understood them to be absolutely honest. I respected his honesty so much! I will miss our phone conversations that usually ended with one of our batteries cutting us off. As a fellow ""nuke"", we had a great deal in common. Dave, you will be missed!

Lit a candle in memory of David  Johnston

Condolences to Daves family. I met Dave in 1985 aboard the USS Truxtun. He was a unique character.  I recall he loved guns,God , military board games, and had a jolly disposition. He had a great laugh, a dry sense of humor and was a bit of a history buff. He taught me about the geography and politics of the Middle East.  God bless Dave and peace and comfort to those who loved him.

Dave and I talked frequently since about 2010 when he was always offering his wisdom or sense of humor. He was a genuinely good person and someone who helped me in many ways. He will be missed.

Dave and I were in the Nuclear Navy together and served on the same ship (Truxun CGN-35).  I always enjoyed listening to his interesting tales while he was at the throttles.  It made those long days at sea pass faster.  I wish him and his family peace.

David was my big brother, always had a kind heart and a brillant mind. I can't think of one time in his life that he ever committed an ungentlemanly act or hurt someone on purpose. He was always there for me if I needed him and was a voice of reason that kept me out of a lot of trouble when we were kids. I know that meeting April and becoming a father to Mabel were the best things that ever happened to him and these were the happiest years of his life. I will miss him for the rest of my life....

Dave was a friend and a dear colleague and his loss is seriously felt in our office.  I have known Dave for many years but more closely after he transferred from Western’s Sacramento office to Western’s Loveland office.  When he was working as a real-time system operator, I interacted with him from time to time to provide him engineering support and find answers to what he had identified to be the problem.  Our working relationship became much closer when he transferred to Transmission Services and Dave and I worked together on a daily basis.  I was his backup and he had my back when I was away from the office.  Dave had a great personality, kind and considerate, easy to talk to, and a good human being overall.  Dave was very well informed, in a wide range of issues and topics.  He certainly had a gift of gab and God knows in one seating with him he could start with one topic and branch out into 10 other topics ranging from the Middle East politics to what’s happening in California, what ills the financial markets, and how China’s monetary policy is affecting the world.   I often felt enriched after talking to Dave about his life experience, his take on the issues, and his knowledge of the topic.  I will certainly miss him.  My deepest condolence and sympathy to Mabel his daughter, to April his wife, and to Dave’s family.  May you rest in peace my friend!

My deepest condolences to April and all of Dave’s Family and Friends. I am heartened to know that so many cared for Dave and that so many others worked to save him.

I too was fortunate to have known Dave for many years back from the “old days” at the San Onofre Nuclear Station after the Navy. We shared countless adventures back then – everything from making mass purchases at the annual gun shows, marathon late-night computer-gaming sessions, gorging ourselves on Sushi at Kurando’s restaurant in Oceanside, and forays (usually unsuccessful) into the stock and commodities markets! Dave had a unique perspective on the world, and would enthusiastically  express himself with humor and clarity in a way that always made myself and others laugh. I will miss our long phone conversations and texts about current events and politics, and the occasional visits when I could stop over in Denver on business trips. 

Thank you for all of the good times and great memories. God Speed my friend. Catch you on the other side someday…

I only knew David via the internet but it was over a period of 10 years on Nukeworker.com but in this new cyberspace culture I got to know him well. He was opinionated, uninhibited, thoughtful, humorous, well informed, as stated here brutal on newbie’s in the industry who showed no initiative or clarity of thought. I am going to miss him greatly and our political debates on every issue under the sun.

I have known Dave for a number of yrs. Since our days as Nukes in the Navy aboard CGN 35. He was a good man, better than I. I would go see him, when i could, in CO when I hunted WY. We would visit, reminise, and have dinner at his favorite sushi place. My condolences to Daves wife, April, their daughter and Dave's family. The world will be a lesser place without him. He will always have a place in my thoughts, memories and heart. I will miss u my friend. We will meet again.
