David Michael Miller, 59, passed away December 27, 2023, at Sunrise Flatirons in Broomfield, Colorado where he has lived for the past 5 years being loved on by an amazing staff. Dave's siblings were by his side as Jesus welcomed him home. Dave battled progressive multiple sclerosis for two decades and taught us all how to love a little deeper.
Dave was born on June 2, 1964, in Greeley, Colorado to Sandra & Michael Courtney, just a short year prior to Mike's passing in a small plane accident. Sandy then married James E. Miller when Dave was two years old, and Jim immediately adopted and raised Dave as his own.
Dave graduated from Valley High in Gilcrest, Colorado in 1983 where he played football, wrestled, and pole vaulted. He made it to the state finals in all three sports his senior year and lettered all 4 years in all 3 sports. He received his bachelor's degree in industrial arts from the University of Wyoming in 1987. After graduation, he married Lisa Smith and had a son, Clint. Dave started his own custom wood cabinetry business in Loveland, Colorado with his brother-in-law, Russ. Dave loved wood-working and built some beautiful pieces but he also loved teaching others how to build. A few years later, he decided to move to Oberlin, Kansas where he coached and entered the field of education. He then moved on to Golden Plains High School in Rexford, KS where he met & married Julie Casey and brought 3 beautiful daughters into the world. He received his master's in school administration from Newman University in 2003 and became the principal of the Palco Roosters and later superintendent. He retired early as superintendent of Bridgeport Public Schools in Nebraska due to his progressive MS battle. He taught and coached in 5 different school districts and loved sharing his quick wit and talents with the next generation.
Dave not only loved playing sports and coaching sports but he loved watching sports. He rarely missed a Cowboys football game, Avs game, Rockies game or a PGA golf match on TV. He loved the outdoors- hunting, fishing, and Friday night high school football games. He also loved his children. He called them every night just to hear their voices and say how much he loved them until the progression of his health made it no longer possible.
Through Dave's declining health, he never lost his quick wit and sense of humor - never at a loss to give you an answer. His smile would still light up the room. Dave is survived by his son, Clint Miller, his daughters, Tatum, Macie and Emilie Miller, his father, James Miller, brothers, Ben and Clark Miller and sister, Katie Strohauer. He is preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Miller and his birth father, Michael Courtney.
Services will be at 11am Friday, January 12, 2024 at Allnutt Funeral Service, Macy Chapel in Greeley, Colorado.
Donations may be made to Sunrise @ Flatirons in memory of David Miller in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 6521 W. 20th Street, Greeley, CO 80634.
