In 1942, Delores married the love of her life, Ignacio Duran. They were married for almost sixty years before his passing in 2000. She loved him every day since. They settled in Greeley, Colorado where they raised their children.
Knowing that aging is a privilege denied to many, yet 101 years was still not enough. Delores is loved for a thousand years more. As an amazing woman, Delores was a woman of strength and with grace, love, and perseverance, she raised her children to be responsible members of her community. She taught them to be hopeful and resilient in all that life brings them. She served as the matriarch with dignity and earned the utmost respect from her family. It was her house, that was home to many, especially during the holidays.
One of the many ways Delores showed love was with her cooking. Her food was seasoned with her prayers and love, making her cooking the best. She enjoyed sharing her recipes without measurements. She always just knew by sight the exact amount of ingredients.
Her wittiness and quick tongue always made all of us laugh, sometimes into tears. Delores loved to dance, we remember watching her and the love of her life, Nacho dance as though they were the only ones in the room. Their moves were timeless and their connection was classic. Many of us remember her little feet moving to the beat of music. Her children remember her always singing and sharing stories about the days of the Charleston.
Living over a hundred years, Delores experienced many triumphs and tragedies, yet, she stood strong in her faith and was resilient in every way. She was resourceful and unique, her work ethic was incredible, her ability to adapt to any situation and make sure everyone was fed, clothed, and warm. She used to make quilts for her grandchildren to always keep them warm. Those quilts will continue to keep many of us warm for many years to come.
Delores created beautiful memories for each of us and she will be greatly missed. As we reflect on her life, there are no words to express her impact. We are blessed to have had such a phenomenal wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. We hope to honor Delores with the dignity, respect, and faithfulness in a way that would make her proud.
