Dennis was born on March 20, 1950, in Chariton, Iowa, to Dwaine and Imogene (Swinscoe) Boothe. He grew up working on the family farm and graduated from Chariton High School in
1968.
Dennis met the love of his life, Cheryl Jean Slack, while they were in high school. They married on August 15, 1970, and built a beautiful life together centered around family, love, and hard work. Dennis worked for Hy-Vee in the warehouse and as a truck driver before
moving his family to Greeley, Colorado, in 1981, to create a better life for them. In Greeley, he worked at a bean-processing plant and later at D&D Commodities packing bird seed. Even after retiring, Dennis continued to stay busy and especially enjoyed working alongside
his grandson.
Dennis loved working with his hands and was a talented woodworker. He created beautiful pieces for his family and enjoyed sharing his love of woodworking with his son, grandson, and great-grandson. He also enjoyed working on cars, fishing, and spending time on his fishing boats. His love for the outdoors began as a boy on the family farm, where he enjoyed chasing squirrels with his .22. Later in life, Dennis became quite fond of the squirrels in his neighborhood. He gave them names, kept a steady supply of peanuts on hand, and even had one loyal little visitor who stopped by every day for her snack.
Dennis was a kind and generous man who was always willing to help others. Whether he was doing yardwork, snow-blowing a neighbor’s driveway, or simply lending a hand wherever it was needed, Dennis could always be counted on.
Above all, Dennis lived for his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them. His love, hard work, generosity, and quiet strength will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Dwaine and Imogene Boothe, and his beloved wife, Cheryl Jean Boothe.
He is survived by his son, Dennis Boothe; his grandchildren; his great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends who will deeply miss him.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Chariton Cemetery in Chariton, Iowa.
Following the service, family and friends are invited to a reception at Grace Baptist Church, 703 S. 1st Street, Chariton, Iowa 50049.
