Dennis Martin Irwin, 61, of DeQuincy, Louisiana, died Thursday, July 3, 2014 at his daughter’s home in Greeley. Dennis was born on December 16, 1953 in Newton County, Texas. He was adopted by William Arthur and Maggie Alice (Hoosier) Irwin.
Dennis grew up in DeQuincy, where he attended school. He then entered the US Army. While attached to C Battery, 6th Battalion 14th Field Artillery, he received a Letter of Commendation for excellent conduct, attitude and duty performance. This was given following an unannounced inspection of NATO 23, by headquarters, VII Corps, US Army. He was honorably discharged on February 28, 1978, and attained the rank of SP4, and returned to DeQuincy.
Dennis enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting and camping near the swamp. He loved the outdoors.
He is survived by his children, William, Eric and Stephen Irwin, Genevieve Soland, Aurora Bourgeois and her husband, Josh Kohler and Joshua Bourgeois and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
