Donald Lee Schmidt of Greeley passed away Monday, March 7, 2011 at North Colorado Medical Center. He was born June 25, 1935 to Henry and Olga Schmidt on the farm in Loveland. He was the youngest of 13 children.
Donald graduated from Longmont High School in 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Army. In December 1958, while stationed in Germany, he suffered a severe brain trauma following a military related auto accident. He returned to the U.S. and spent several years living in Greeley with his father before moving to the VA nursing home in Windsor.
He is survived by his sister Wilma Wagner of Brighton, many nieces and nephews as well as a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Olga Schmidt, and siblings, Anne Staley, Bill Schmidt, John Schmidt, Ben Schmidt, Mary Wagner, Eddie Schmidt, Eleanor Miller, George Schmidt, Walter Schmidt, Theodore Schmidt and Robert Schmidt.
Visitation 9 a.m. -10:30 a.m. Monday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Graveside service 11 a.m. Monday at Platteville cemetery.
