Dorothy Arlene Campbell, 84, of LaSalle, Colorado, passed away on April 26, 2026, at Brookdale Senior Living after a short stay. Dorothy was born on April 2, 1942, in Greeley, Colorado, to Henry and Elma (Dumler) Ley.
Dorothy married Gary Campbell on September 25, 1962, in Greeley. Together they welcomed two children, Tammy Campbell (1963) and Gary Jr. (1965).
They made their home in the LaSalle and Kersey areas before moving to a farm near Kuner, where they farmed for 35 years and operated a small dairy for a time. During those years, Dorothy also worked at R&B's Supermarket as a clerk and in the meat department, where she formed a special friendship with Joanne Heckendorf.
Dorothy found joy in tending her large garden and preserving its bounty through canning. She was known for cooking hearty, "stick-to-your-ribs" meals that brought people together. She had a deep love for her Holstein dairy cows, especially Blossom, who was famously fond of Snickers bars. Dorothy also enjoyed trips to Black Hawk with Gary, particularly visiting the Lodge, even braving a pending blizzard once just for the adventure. After retiring, they returned to LaSalle, where they made their home.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Tammy Campbell of Kersey; her brother, Fred (Carol) Ley; her sister, Kathy (Bob) Dilka; her sisters-in-law, Barbara Ley and Connie Ley; and her dear friend, Joanne Heckendorf.
She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Jr. "Ougie" Campbell; her parents; and her siblings, Larry Ley, Henry Ley Jr., Donald Ley, and Juanita Peters.
A Graveside Service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3400 W 28th St, Greeley, CO 80634, US, on May 5, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
