

Dorothy began life in Gill, Colorado. She was the 5th child in a family of 6 children. Her parents, John and Katherine Gies were farmers. She attended school in rural school houses, in the Greeley area, and Greeley High School.
She married Richard Charles Capron on September 27, 1942. Richard graduated from Greeley High School in May 1943 and soon joined the Navy which took him to the Pacific on the USS Marcus Island. Dorothy followed Richard to California to help in the war effort. She worked for Pan American World Airways and the USPS as a mail carrier.
After World War II the young family settled in San Diego and had a daughter, Sue Ann in April of 1947.
They left California in 1956 and slowly made their way back to Greeley, Colorado with stops in Wyoming and Montana.
After moving back to Greeley in 1958, Dorothy did various jobs from seamstress, clerk, and working at Safeway in the meat department. She also knitted sweaters to help with the tuition bills for her daughter’s college education.
She was an extremely good bowler, winning many awards, and enjoyed the sport until she was 90. She also spent time traveling with her husband to many fishing locations in their mini motor home. She dallied in many types of needlework and crafts.
They moved to Bullhead City, Arizona to retire in 1984, but left there in 1990 after Richard developed a recurrence of colon cancer and moved to Pueblo, Colorado. They lived there until Richard’s death in 1992. Dorothy then moved back to Greeley to live with her recently widowed sister Helen. In December of 2006 Dorothy moved to Colorado Springs to be near her daughter Sue. At this time, she convinced her daughter to go bowling with her. Sue is still bowling today.
Dorothy was proceeded in death by her husband Richard, parents John and Katherine Gies of Greeley, all of her siblings; Barbara Somer, John Gies Jr., and Helen Bradley all of Greeley, Ruth Boner of Lusk, Wyoming and Eileen Hover, of New Holland, Pennsylvania.
She is survived by her daughter Sue Sommers, granddaughters; Whitney Lazzaro, Ashley Sommers, son in law, Mark Robbins, and great granddaughter Caroline Wilbur all of Colorado Springs. She is also survived by one niece Barbara Mangulis and her husband George of Peidmont, South Dakota, and one wife of a nephew Donald, Debby Somer and her family of Greeley.
