Dr. Benton had been my counselor when I attended CSU in the late 60's and early 70's. He was a jewel and truly cared about his students and their plans for the future. They definitely threw away the mold when they made Dr. Benton! My sincerest sympathies to all who knew and loved him!

Doug was a warm and welcoming colleague when I arrived at CSU in 1988. I worked with him for some time and he was always open, enthusiastic, and genuinely caring about students and fellow faculty members. I'm grateful that I knew him.

Doug and I became acquainted when I was a student in the CSU College of Business. He was a significant encouragement to me more than once. A man of high character and sensibility... Doug was one you would always want 'on your team'.
I was blessed, as well, to know Doug as he began his walk with the LORD. I'm certain his affability and gentle demeanor were gifts, and that Doug shared them well indeed.
Blessings to all of Doug's family, as you reflect on and rejoice in his legacy.

I worked with Doug at the COB. He was always a thoughtful person on the committees we shared. Somehow, he always managed to stay calm as we debated many an issue. I always enjoyed a chat with him when I saw him in the halls.

Sheryl, Billy, & Benton Family,
Please know you have our most sincere and heartfelt sympathies. We are saddened by your loss but grateful for having had Doug in our lives. Doug was my host when I interviewed with the Department of Management at CSU. He was very generous with his time and especially gracious considering he was still mourning the loss of their baby son. Doug helped orient me to the college and to CSU and helped me prepare for my first attempts at teaching. We later worked together on a research project that focused upon the impact on student learning and retention when provided 'lectureless' classes. Doug was well suited for the project as he was first and foremost a teacher.
The college gatherings at the Benton home remain one of my fondest memories of the college. He was a major part of creating a family atmosphere for the college. He was a big man with a big heart and will be missed. We hope the wonderful memories of him will comfort you all.

Doug was a wonderful person, a great contributor at CSU. I worked with him in the 1970s and saw him frequently on campus. We had shared interests, He was a man of integrity and faith. Doug notified us when our favorite house came for sale, we bought it and became his neighbor for many years. I will miss him.

Benton family,

I remember sitting next to Doug at a LP home game in the spring 2019. He was so proud of you Bill. Talked about you, your passion, your leadership. He said just really enjoyed watching you coach, being there with all your family there too. He was an example of a family man and a faithful disciple wrapped in a warm, friendly smile. Will be praying for all of your family, with sincere sympathy. He was genuinely loved by all who met him.

To Dr. Benton’s family,

I met Dr. Benton at CSU as a student in his Business Management class. Of course when he found out who I was we became quick friends with the old Greeley connection. We lived on Pitkin Street so he walked by our house daily on his way to campus and we’d visit more. Then when I went to work at Allnutt Funeral Service I would see Doug as he came by discussing the Gideons. We had a nice visit on the phone occasionally and had one just recently when he knew his time was nearing the end. What a wonderful man! So calming and gracious. He left an imprint on my life and I’m lucky to have met him.

May he Rest In Peace now as he prepares a place for his beloved Dorothy.
