

“Dr. Bob” George R. Reid practiced large animal veterinary medicine in Albany, Oregon for 56 years. He was born in Fairfax, South Dakota on December 21, 1923 to Dr. George F. and Nell Reid. The Reid Family moved from South Dakota to Albany, OR, with their three boys, Bob, Dick and Roger, during the Depression. Dr. Bob’s father established the Reid Veterinary Hospital in 1934 and Bob and Dick continued the practice. The practice has continued with nephew, Tim Reid at the helm and the legacy will continue with his son, Harrison Reid, currently attending veterinary school at Oregon State University.
Bob attended Oregon State University for one year and then attended and graduated from Colorado State University with his D.V.M. in 1948. He took time from his schooling and served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 in Ft. Lewis, Washington.
Bob married Elvira Reilly in Albany on March 11, 1956 and they recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. The couple has one daughter, Margaret Grant, who resides in Greeley, and they relocated to Colorado in 2004 to be near their daughter, son-in-law, Tom Grant and two grandsons, Reid Grant of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Michael Grant of Ft. Collins, CO.
Bob’s activities in Albany were many and included Rotary for over 50 years, in which Bob was a Paul Harris Fellow for the PolioPlus Program. He was also active in the United Way of Linn County, Albany Library Board, Masons and St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. In Greeley, Bob was active in the GRASP program at the Greeley Senior Center, Trinity Episcopal Church and the United Way of Weld County. Bob also enjoyed morning coffee and conversation at Your Place Coffee on most weekdays.
In addition to his wife, Elvira, daughter and son-in-law and his grandsons, Bob is survived by brother, Dick Reid; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Sharon Reid of Albany, OR; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joan and George Amsden of Williston, ND; and many nephews and nieces, as well as cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Joseph and Loretta Reilly; sisters-in-law Jeannette Reid, Margaret Wade and Jean Lehmann; as well as a nephew, Terry Amsden.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 16th, 2015 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Greeley, CO.
