He married Frances Elizabeth Nelson, of Eaton, on March 21, 1954. For a time while serving in the Navy, Duane and Frances loved living in San Diego. But Eaton was home. They bought a farm a half mile from Duane’s childhood home, and raised three children, Karen, Tom and Chuck.
Duane is survived by his three children and their families – daughter Karen Wilson-Johnson, husband Rob Johnson, Hannah Johnson Snyder, Daniel Snyder, and Alyssa Johnson; son Tom Wilson, Jourdyn Wilson; son Chuck Wilson, Dannette Wilson, Sydney and Molly Wilson; and great-grandchildren, Kylee and Jaxson Wilson, and Scarlett Snyder.
He is also survived by sisters Marian Cazer and Vickie Anderson, their husbands Jack Cazer and Arlen Anderson, and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all whom Duane loved and whose company he treasured. Duane was preceded in death by his wife Frances, his older brother Keith, and granddaughters Sarah Johnson and Nicole Wilson.
Duane is also survived by many close friends; most notably Cindy Christy, whom he considered a second daughter, her husband Roger and their family. Their friendship and care were an immeasurable blessing.
A proud veteran and American patriot always, Duane enlisted in the Navy in 1950, was stationed through much of the Korean War in the Philippines, as a Seabee in a Construction Battalion
Duane began his life after the Navy as a farmer. He soon began feeding lambs, which became his passion. He grew that into his primary business, a large commercial lamb feeding operation. To manage feedlot waste he began composting, which he grew into its own business enterprise. As founder of A1 Organics, he was an innovator and leader in the organic recycling industry.
Duane was active in many organizations to include the American Legion, First Congregational Church of Eaton/Ault, National Lamb Feeders as Past Director and Program Co-Chair, Lions Club, Eaton Historical Society, Eaton Pioneer Society, RV Club, Wednesday Coffee Club, SWAGS (an acronym mostly for a good time with friends), the Eaton Snoop Club as President, and was on the board of Larimer and Weld Irrigation.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, amazing father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a true friend, and a man of deep faith and conviction, whose relationship with Christ was paramount.
