

Edward Michael Chagnon, 74, of Greeley, died June 1, 2013 McKee Medical Center. He was born September 27, 1938 in Westfield, Massachusetts. He was adopted by Kathryn and Edward P. Chagnon and was raised in West Springfield, Massachusetts and Phoenix, Arizona. Edward attended St. Agnes and St. Frances Xavier Elementary Schools, Brophy College Preparatory, and Phoenix College in Phoenix.
Ed was employed by Western Electrin/Lucent Technologies for 30 years. He retired and moved to Greeley in 1991 where he worked at 1st Christian Church and also worked in property management for Michael Shaffer.
Ed married Linda Langlois on June 5, 1982 in Sedona, Arizona.
Ed has been an active parishioner initially at St. Peter’s while Linda was the UNC Catholic Campus Minister and then at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish. While living in Phoenix he attended Most Holy Trinity, St. Paul’s and St. Luke’s Catholic Parishes.
Ed was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Greeley and Phoenix. He was an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society all his adult life, and an early and active member of the Guadalupe Shelter support group in Greeley.
Ed was an athlete in High School and College playing football and running track. He ran in over 74 15k races many as fundraiser for MS, Cancer and Leukemia Support. At age 46, he ran his first marathon and completed it to the cheers of his grandchildren. Ed had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and nature. He enjoyed camping at Mormon Lake in Flagstaff, Arizona and traveling and camping in the National Parks and beaches. He is “famous” for his Original Tonka Truck Collection numbering well over 200 selections. He can and has installed water heaters at 3:00 a.m. on the spot and has raised a few calves for “something fun to do” and was always available to those in need. He also assisted setups and take downs for the Cattle Barons Ball for 7 years for the Cancer Society of Weld County. Ed has always been involved with his children’s school activities and their families.
Ed is survived by his wife of 31 years Linda Langlois Chagnon; his daughters Kathleen (Tim) Lambros of Tucson, Arizona, Laura (Casey) Tighe of Golden; son Michael (Leslie) Chagnon of Arvada; sister Patricia Melik of Indianapolis, Indiana; brothers Thomas (Beverly) Tobin and William (Debbie) Tobin all of Pittsfield, Massachuetts; Grandchildren Nichol Baird, Rebekah Ross, Timarie Phillips, Johnathan Lambros, Kevin Tighe, Dugan Tighe, Christopher Chagnon, Kaitlin Chagnon, Mark Chagnon; Great Granchildren Lyla, Georgia, Bailey, Miles Baird, Drew, Bella, and Eli Ross; Linda’s children J. Christopher, Stephen Patrick, David Jaronik and Mary McClair;
He was preceded in death by his adopted parents, his natural parents Willard and Mary Tobin, one sister Mary Tobin and grandson Ryan Chagnon.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 6 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
