

Elda Mae Bell, 81, of Evans, died April 9, 2014 at Bonell Good Samaritan Center. She was born May 2, 1932 in Will County, Illinois to Henry Jr. and Rosa (Schmidt) Lohmann. She grew up in Illinois She married Charles G. Bell on August 19, 1951 in Eagle Lake, Illinois. He died January 31, 2001. Elda and Charles lived in Indiana where they farmed. They moved to Mississippi in 1959 where they continued to farm. In 1973, they moved to the Gilcrest area to continue farming until 1981 when they retired and moved to Evans.
Elda loved to crochet, making Christmas ornaments and afghans. She was an excellent seamstress making many of their clothes. Elda spent time baking cookies for the Share Program at area nursing homes. She loved to bake and the smell of fresh baked bread greeted her children many times coming home from school. She loved preparing for the holiday and above all the time spent with her family.
Elda had enjoyed two helicopter rides one of which was over a volcano in Hawaii.
Elda loved almost every activity at Bonell Good Samaritan Center especially playing Bingo. She especially enjoyed attending church services at Bonell Good Samaritan Center, and enjoyed the Monday morning program of singing hymns.
Elda is survived by her three daughters Rosemary Polimeni of Rochester, New York, Sandra (Randy) Ballard of Columbus, Mississippi and Kathy (Gilbert) Valencia of Greeley, Colorado; one son Randy (Peggy) Bell of Ft. Collins, Colorado; three sisters Bernice Haseman of Beecher, Illinois, Rosa Bruns of Beecher, Illinois and Lois (John) Wierl of Beecher, Illinois; one brother LeRoy (Marjorie) Lohmann of Peotone, Illinois ;sister-in-law Marjorie Lohmann of Brush, Colorado ; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles and brothers Herbert and Henry.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 16 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 17 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
