Eleanor Leona Butler, 93, of Farmington, Utah, formerly of Greeley, died Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Fairfield Village in Layton. She was born November 14, 1925 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Ream Everett and Etta Lorene (Boling) Carpenter.
She graduated in 1943 from Centennial High School in Pueblo. On November 17, 1943, she married Louis Edward Butler in Seattle, Washington. In 1957, she graduated from Colorado State Teacher’s College (now UNC) with a degree in education. Leona taught first grade in Pueblo for 29 years, she was active in Cub Scouts for many years and received the Silver Beaver award. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served Church missions at Haskell Indian College in Lawrence, Kansas and at LDS temples in Bern, Switzerland and Frankfurt, Germany.
In the 1990s, Leona and Louis moved to Greeley. In September of 2016, after her husband had died in 2005, Leona moved to Farmington, Utah.
Leona is survived by her children, Louis Edward Butler (Glenna) of Farmington, James Alan Butler (Tesi) of Colorado Springs, Charles Thomas Butler (Carol) of Yuma, Arizona and Donald Eldon Butler (Lynnette) of Greeley; brother, Don Carpenter (Doris) of Texas; 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Charlotte Ilene Butler.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2019 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
