Elinor "Ellee" Castro, 93, passed away on July 21 in Aurora. She was the sister of Phyllis and Andrew Mavrakos, wife of Apolinar "Dan" Castro and mother to Charles "Chuck" Root. Born in New York City, Greeley was her home since the 1950's. She was owner of Ellee's Knit Nook and wrote for the Greeley Tribune for over 30 years.
She is survived by her grandchildren Rachel Anderson (Jeff), Phillip McNeil, Robert Pierce, Scott Pierce, great-grandchildren Cooper Anderson and Aidan McNeil and nephew Ted Mavrakos, grandnephews Andy and Paul Mavrakos and former daughters-in-law Sima Gelman and Barbara Pierce.
The funeral will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3800 West 20th Street in Greeley on Friday July 28 at 10am. Interment will be at 1:30pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Girl Scouts of Colorado as Ellee was one of the oldest active Girl Scouts in Weld County, in care of Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634.
