Ellen met the love of her life, Ken Garrett, when they were in the third grade. Their friendship grew into a lifelong romance while they attended Roosevelt High School in Johnstown. The couple married on August 1, 1970, and together built a loving home where they raised their two sons, Bryan and Kevin.
Ellen found joy in life's simple pleasures. She was a voracious reader who could always be found with a good book in hand. She loved camping, spending time in the mountains, and sharing adventures with Ken through Mountain Man Rendezvous events. Ellen enjoyed collecting cookbooks and was known for her delicious ham balls and other family-favorite recipes, which she passed down to continue family traditions.
She had a special place in her heart for the Pekingese dogs she and Ken cherished throughout the years. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she faithfully read her daily devotionals. Ellen also treasured the handmade gifts Ken created for her, each one a reminder of the love they shared over more than five decades of marriage.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Unamae Lanham.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ken Garrett; her sons, Bryan Garrett (Michelle) and Kevin Garrett (Crystal); grandchildren, Katelyn Garrett (Cody), Bill Garrett (Wanda), Abby Bruellisauer (Josh), and Wyatt Garrett (Amisty); four great-grandchildren; sisters, Lisa Eastep and Linda Goodman (Mike).
Ellen will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love of family, her generous heart, and the warmth she brought to every gathering. Her legacy lives on in the traditions she created, the meals she shared, and the love she gave so freely to those fortunate enough to know her.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m., both at Stoddard Funeral Home. Ellen will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley.
