Eugene “Gene” Roy Brantner was born in 1935 in Greeley, Colorado, to Louis J. and Burtis Anna Brantner. He attended Delta Elementary School, College High School, and Henry Ford College.
Gene married Donna Rathburn, and they later divorced. In 1969, he married the love of his life, Carol Vines, beginning a loving partnership that would last throughout the remainder of his life.
Gene successfully operated several local businesses, including Brantner Spraying and Brantner Trash Services. Gene also worked for Weld County Garage in Commercial Sales. His commitment to his community extended well beyond his businesses. He served as a special deputy with the Weld County Sheriff’s Department, was a member of the Weld County Sheriff’s Posse, served with the Evans Police Reserve, the Evan’s Water Board and retired from the Evan’s Fire Department.
Gene was also active in the community and served as a Weld County Commissioner. He participated in the Greeley Stampede for many years as a Wrangler, a Committee Member and an Old Bucker.
Gene and Carol shared a love of travel and adventure. Together, they traveled throughout the U.S. in their RV, making memories along the way. Also, in Canada and Mexico. They especially enjoyed spending their winters in California and Arizona.
Gene is survived by his daughters, Jeanine (Bob) Hunt of John Day, Oregon and Michell Rutt of Evans, Colorado; his son, Eric Brantner of Brownwood, Texas; step-sons Steven Palmer of Evans, Colorado, and Randy Palmer of Greeley, Colorado; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and his brother, Donald Brantner. He is also survived by his family and many friends whose lives he touched through the years.
Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol; his daughter, Stephanie Wisniewski; and his parents.
Gene and Carol rode the trail of life. With love, laughter, and happiness in their hearts. There comes a time when every trail ends—a time to put away the saddles, put the horses out to pasture, and slowly close the gate.
Gene’s trail may have come to an end, but the memories he made, the people he loved, and the lives he touched will carry on.
