Florentina D. Cavazos, age 88, was called to the Lord on October 27, 2021 at UC Health, Greeley, CO, with her children by her side. Florentina was born April 21, 1933 in Asherton, TX, to Eleno Duran Sr. and Amalia Zavala Duran.
To all who knew her, she was just “Tina.” Tina was a loving and devoted mother, sister, friend, and woman of God. She had the most loving and generous heart and touched many lives with her presence. Tina especially loved spending time with family and friends cooking amazing meals in her kitchen and tending to her beautiful flowers. Tina adored her children and cherished her grandchildren. She retired twice from North Colorado Medical Center (NCMC) to help raise her grandchildren. After 34 years, she permanently retired to enjoy her time with family. Tina had a large extended family in her community that she loved. There wasn’t a place she went to that she was not recognized by a fellow employee or church member.
The eldest daughter of 16 siblings, Tina grew up quickly and became a mother figure to so many of her siblings, nephews, and nieces. She was always just a phone call away for her family. Until her last days in life, she continued to ask and care for her family. Always caring for others was her nature.
Tina worked hard her entire life as that is how she was raised. She instilled those hard work ethics in her children and expected others to follow suit. Tina always had time for a good conversation, especially regarding scripture. Enjoying her afternoon with a good cup of coffee and her bible was how she spent many of her days.
Tina is survived by her children, Ruben Cavazos, Jr. and spouse Suzie Cavazos, Veronica Cavazos-Hernandez and spouse Ruben F. Hernandez, Raul Cavazos, and Maria Cavazos; grandchildren, Joshua T. Cavazos and spouse Renee Cavazos, Brandon J. Cavazos, Antonio R. A. Hernandez, and John A. Hernandez; great-grandchildren, Edryk Taylor Cavazos and Avyella Dee Cavazos; and siblings, Maria Elena Patlan, Tomasa (Cynthia) Silva, Mucio Duran, Ramon Duran, Gloria Sanford, Olga Duran Cardenas, Diana Romo, Daniel (Danny) Duran, and Juan (Johnny) Duran. Tina was preceded in death by her daughter, Josephina N. Cavazos Moyano, grandson Christopher Joe Moyano, and siblings Gilbert Duran, Eufemio Duran, Aurelia Lara, Eleno Duran Jr., Rosalinda Duran, and Yolanda Duran Gutierrez.
