Floyd “Alan” McWilliams died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on April 7, 2022 after a brief illness. He was 94. Born March 14, 1928 to William and Estella (Wilson) McWilliams, Alan grew up on a farm near Ault CO. He graduated from Ault High School in 1946. He worked for the Weld County Clerk and traveled through California and Oregon before enlisting in the Navy in 1950 to “see the world” only to spend 4 years in San Diego. While stationed there, he met and married Betty (Bailey) Clark; their union lasted 18 years. Following his return to Colorado, Alan worked at Security Abstract Company and as a salesman for JP Lorillard Tobacco Company. In 1961 he became a letter carrier for the United States Post Office and carried downtown Route 7 in Greeley for his entire career, retiring in 1988.
Alan met and married Florence (Alles) Schneider in 1972. Together they enjoyed spending time with their family and friends, camping, bowling, square dancing, playing cards, snow-birding in Arizona and caring for their grandchildren. Following Florence’s death in 2005, Alan continued to make the most of his life. He traveled with the Senior Center and took trips to Mexico and Ireland and cruises to Alaska and the Mediterranean. He was proud to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2011. Alan was a member of First Congregational Church and participated in several mission trips. He had a keen sense of adventure - parasailing in Mexico, zip-lining in Guatemala, and celebrating his 85th birthday by tandem skydiving with his granddaughter. He enjoyed weekly lunches at the Ault Senior Center, coffee with his friends and attending ROMEOs with church friends on Friday mornings. He was a friend to all and left his mark on so many.
Alan is survived by his children Jeannie McWilliams of Renton WA, Lori McCarty of Eaton CO, Jack Clark of Fort Myers Beach FL and John Clark of Siloam Springs AR; grandchildren Kevin (Alyssa) McCarty of Broomfield CO, Kyle (Daneka) McCarty of Greeley CO, Kara (Jake) Schuch of Ft. Collins CO and Tammy (Rod) Calhoun of Fremont OH; great grandchildren Liam, Greyson, Milana, Paxton, Brady, Seth, Bailey and Erik; great-great grandchildren Braylon and Kathryn as well as his very special friend Dorothy Foster of Greeley CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Florence, brother Forest McWilliams, son Biff Schneider, and granddaughters Rebecca McCarty and Wendy Clark.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30 at First Congregational Church, UCC, 2101 16th St, Greeley, CO 80631. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html?frequency_selected=2&sc_icid=mem-lp-donate-bttn-top
