Frances Blackston, lovingly known as “Bandi,” age 84, of Keenesburg, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2025. Born in Rose Bud, Arkansas, she was the cherished daughter of the late Ernest and Ruby Mallonee.
Frances married the love of her life, Johnnie, on January 4, 1958, and they shared 45 wonderful years together. Frances' formal education concluded after the 8th grade, but her wisdom, compassion, and strength far exceeded anything found in books. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She spent her life caring for others—with her heart, her hands, and her ever-present sense of humor.
Frances dedicated herself to her family and community. She worked in assisted living nursing homes and later served in the kitchen at Hudson Elementary School, where she became affectionately known as “Bandi the Lunch Lady.” Beloved by students and staff alike, she brought warmth and kindness to everyone she encountered. No one was a stranger to Frances—she welcomed all with open arms and a generous spirit. Her love for her children and grandchildren knew no bounds.
She is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline (Tom) Beckvermit of Keenesburg, Colorado, and Shawn Ramsey (Greg Eirish) of Indiana; daughter-in-law, Melony Blackston of Kansas; six grandchildren, JJ and Katrina Blackston of South Carolina, Kolt and Talissa Blackston of Indiana, Krystal and Kevin Adams of South Carolina,Paige and Dustin Tobler of Kansas, Calvin and Tristan Blackston of North Dakota, Gracie Blackston of Kansas; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Bessie (JC) Ward of Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews who adored her.
In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Blackston, brothers Don, Conley, Jay Mallonee, and sister-in-law Kay Mallonee. As well as her son, Johnny Blackston, and her beloved grandson, Max Blackston.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be held in honor of Frances on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 12:30 PM at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Her legacy of kindness, resilience, and unconditional love lives on in all who were lucky enough to know her.
