After graduating from Odebolt High School in 1959, Frank joined the Army Reserves and served for several years. During this time, he relocated to Fort Collins, CO to work for his two brothers, Leonard and Paul, laying brick at their construction company.
Frank met Sandy Hettinger of Greeley, and the two married on April, 19th 1969. Together they had three sons, Troy, Todd and Jared.
In 1977, Frank and Sandy purchased Kings Pawn Shop in Garden City.
Serving the community was a passion for Frank and Sandy. Because of their dedication and care of others, Kings Pawn Shop became a staple of the community, and overtime, patrons became friends who sometimes came in just for a visit. Today, Kings Pawn is still going strong, 47 years later.
Frank had a passion for his family, church, and of course, his golf game, but he always made sure his family was taken care of first. He was a loving husband and an exceptional father, a tradition he carried on to his grandkids. Frank loved to swing the clubs, and up until the time of his illness, Frank could still score better than his age in golf. His hole-in-one is still celebrated in the halls of the Greeley Country Club.
He and his family were members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church for several decades, with Frank serving as an usher for some.
Frank is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandy, his three boys, Troy Bengford of Greeley, Todd Bengford of Lone Tree and Jared (Mary) Bengford of Greeley, his three grandchildren, Brandon, Arianna and Jace, and two great grandchildren, Raelinn and Weston with one more grandchild, Alexander, soon to come, and his two sisters, Mary (Jim) Vanscoy of Omaha, NE, and Dorthy (Jim) Barkley of Chicago, IL.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his five brothers, Leonard (Joanne) Bengford, Don (Darlene) Bengford, Gerald (Ruth) Bengford, Paul (Darlene) Bengford, Denny (Malinda) Bengford, and one sister Janita (Don) Ahrenholtz.
A viewing for Frank will be held Feb. 27th, at Allnutt Macy Chapel, 6521 W 20th St, Greeley, CO from 6 pm to 9 pm.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2222 - 23rd Ave., Greeley, CO on March 5th at 11:30 am. Reception to follow at Allnutt Macy Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to consider donations to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, Pathway’s Hospice, or Mayo Clinic of Arizona.
