Frank Alfred Holmes, 72, of Greeley, passed away at Hospice of Northern Colorado on December 24, 2014. He was born September 27, 1942 in Wilkes Barre, PA, to Benjamin and Rachel (Vandermark) Holmes. He married Joanne Antista on December 28, 1963 in Westminster, CO.

Frank graduated from Myers High School in Wilkes Barre, PA in 1960. He joined the United State Air Force and was stationed at Lowry Air force Base. He went on to attend the Colorado State Patrol Police Academy.

Frank was with the Colorado State Patrol for 20 years (1971-1991). He also worked for Coca Cola in Greeley for 13 years and the Villa Restitution Center for 3 years.

Frank was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, and the Greeley Moose Lodge. He enjoyed attending his son’s and then his grandchildren’s sporting events, painting, collecting Coca Cola memorabilia, frequent walks around Bittersweet Park, listening to Elvis and the “oldies”, and dancing.

He was a great husband, father and grandpa and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne Holmes; sons, Dean (Shaundra) Holmes, Englewood, CO , and Brian (Heidi) Holmes, Greeley, CO; sisters Patricia (Bob) Stravinski, Ft. Washington, PA, Donna Engle, Nanticoke, PA, and Marlene Wylie, Ashley, PA; grandchildren Andrew (Pathana), Jessica, Brandon, Patricia, Tyler and Benjamin; and great grandchild, Liam Holmes.

The Holmes Family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the nursing staff at Bonell Good Samaritan and also the staff of Caring Hearts for the love and care that was provided.

He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Holmes and Rachel Engle (Vandermark).

Visitation 5-7:00 P.M., Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Allnutt Macy Chapel. Rosary with services to follow will begin at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
