

Frederic “Fred” M. Rutherford, 84 of Greeley, passed away December 10, 2020 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO. Fred was born in Greeley, CO, at the old Weld County Hospital to Milton and Betty (Allnutt) Rutherford. They took Fred home to Eaton, CO, where he lived until finishing college.
Fred graduated from Eaton High School in 1954. Then, in the fall, he enrolled at Colorado A&M (now CSU), graduating in 1958 with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. He then enrolled at CSC (now UNC) and earned a Master’s degree in 1959. His first teaching /coaching job was at Gering, NE, then Sedgwick County High School, and finally at Akron Elementary School.
In 1962 he started as a caseworker in Fremont County Department of Social Services at Canon City, CO. In 1965 he transferred to Weld County Department of Social Services. That year he married Fern Traub on July 14th, in Eaton but they were later divorced. In July of 1974 he married Patricia Bennetts and they also divorced.
Fred retired from Weld County Department of Social Services in 2002. On November 8, 2003, he married Susan Shilliday. They took cruises together to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska, England and Normandy. In 2003 he also went with six other members of his church group to Tanzania to distribute school supplies.
Fred enjoyed all sports. His favorites were the Bronco’s and Rockies, but he was also a fan of CSU and UNC.
Fred is survived by his wife Susan; stepsons Christopher Turner of Greeley and Jonathan Turner of Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother Richard of Ft. Collins.
