Gary married Judy on August 31, 1968, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. They raised three sons and shared nearly 57 years together before her passing on June 14, 2025.
Gary served six years in the National Guard, mostly based out of Gering, Nebraska. He worked as a journeyman sheet metal worker before eventually moving to Colorado to work at Kodak, retiring in 2005.
Gary found a lot of enjoyment in working with his hands—fixing cars, doing carpentry and taking on projects around the house. He liked having something to work on and the satisfaction of a job done well. Classic cars, camping and fishing were longtime favorites, along with the years he spent coaching his sons in baseball.
His grandchildren were one of the greatest joys of his life. He loved spending time with them, watching them grow into their own people and being part of their lives. Cheering them on in sports was just one of the many ways he enjoyed being their grandpa.
Gary also enjoyed gathering around a table with friends and family for poker, cribbage or a good card or board game. The company and laughter were as much a part of the fun as the game itself. He liked taking trips to the casinos and trying his luck in Black Hawk, Colorado, South Dakota and, more recently, Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Gary was a man you could count on. His word was his bond, and his loyalty and integrity showed in how he lived and treated others. He had a sharp sense of humor and a determination that carried him through life’s challenges. He took his commitments seriously, but always left room for a laugh.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mary and Harold Duncan; his wife, Judy Duncan; his brother, Larry Duncan; and his sisters, Karen Duncan and Terry Sorrell.
He is survived by his sons, Andy Duncan of Greeley, Colorado; Randy Duncan of Phoenix, Arizona; and Josh Duncan and his wife, Toni, of Greeley, Colorado. His grandchildren are Sierra Duncan, Hailie Duncan and Mykenna Duncan, all of Greeley, Colorado, and Mallory Duncan and Tyler Duncan of Austin, Texas.
He will be remembered in the time he shared with his family and the memories they carry forward.
