

Former Estes Park resident, Gene Brough, died at his Ft. Collins, CO home. He was 85 years old. Gene O. Brough was born December 2, 1931 in Boulder, CO. His parents were John and Bernice (Walker) Brough. Gene was raised in Sunshine, CO, a mining town near Boulder. On April 17, 1954 he married Betty Brodie at the Estes Park Community Church, now the home of the Old Church Shops in downtown Estes Park. He worked at Brodie’s Supermarket at the original store in the 1950’s which moved to where Barlow Plaza is today. He worked there for 30 years, including as manager, until the store closed in October, 1987. Gene was a member of American Legion Post 119, serving 2 terms as Post Commander. He was also a Volunteer Fireman and a member of the Estes Park Bowling Association. He is survived by his wife Betty of Ft. Collins, Son Brett and his wife Leisa of Tulsa, OK, daughter Tammy McNitt of Westminster, CO, Brother Richard Brough (Lois) of Brighton, CO, sister Betty Sweetland of Oak Creek, CO. He is also survived by 2 grandsons and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Richard St. Clair. There will be Celebration of Gene’s Life, which will take place at the American Legion Hall in Estes Park on Saturday June 3, 2017 at 1:00 PM.
