Gerald was raised and educated in Brush. After his education, he entered the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and Purple Heart. After his discharge, he lived in Colorado Springs, working in security.
On January 9, 1982, he married Dawn Petersen in Redvale, Colorado.
Gerald worked alongside his father at Adams Wells Works in Brush, which was established by his dad. He owned and operated Jerry’s Pump Service in Brush. Him and his family moved to Westcliffe in 1992, following Dawn’s retirement from the U.S. Air Force.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Dawn; one daughter, Christine Adams of Westcliffe; two sons, Joe (Monique) Adams of Greeley and Don Adams of Thornton; three sisters, Margaret Jacoby of Windsor, Barbara Ferguson of Brush and Dorothy (Herb) Morhlang of Greeley; two brothers, Harold Jr. (Jane) Adams of Wiggins and Tom (Bonnie) Adams of Castle Rock; three grandchildren, Veronica Adams, Mikayla Adams and Alyssa Adams and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Craig Adams and a sister, Annette Frick.
Visitation will be 3:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Celebration of Life will be 9:00 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2013 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Brush Memorial Cemetery.
